  1. My mother, from PEI, said her father and brothers did this together when people wanted to dance but there was no fiddler available (or "handy"). She, and they, called it "jigging" or "jigging a tune".

  2.  @PeterGordon-x7l  Well, it's not like everyone had a set of bagpipes or even a fiddle in the house and/or someone who knew how to play them before the '45. And puirt a bheul was, to my knowledge, the way of teaching pipes since time immemorial ....
