Fact: Over the previous 400 years, France had invaded German territory 40 times, with murder, mayhem, and theft, the result. That's once every 10 years! Then the French were pissed off at the Germans for unifying into one nation and stopping these French adventures.

  2.  @adamwest5212  Several years after having watched this movie I learned that the captain actually survived the strafing attack. Apparently the captain had to die in the movie in order to be politically correct in Germany.
