  1. I now buy a reliable car, RAV4 by choice, 2 to 3 years old and drive it until it is ready for the scrap yard. In the long ago past I bought new cars and also drove them to the scrap yard, or they were totalled by being rear-ended while stopped for a red traffic light. In the 1950's and 60's it was de rigeur to buy a new car every 2 to 4 years. Fortunately I never bought into that money pit. A new car every few year will keep a working person poor for life.
