@James-kv6kb OK, what equipment, exactly, did the USA sell to Germany prior to 1914???
6
@MLB1212 Certainly Germany did not declare war until its enemies had mobilized their armies ie. Russia and France. At that time mobilization was equivalent to a declaration of war. The Kaiser appealed to the Tsar to stop Russian mobilization but he refused.
5
@invisibleman4827 Bullshit. Germany's response was to Russian mobilization ie. a defacto declaration of war. The Kaiser tried his best to get the Tsar to stop Russian mobilization, but to no avail. Germany did not declar war on Russia or France until these had mobilized.
4
@pashapasovski5860 Doesn't matter. Foreigners bought machinery and chemicals from Germany, stuff that was known to be better than what the British could offer.
3
@invisibleman4827 In those days certainly, mobilization was a declaration of war. Germany did not declare war or invade until its enemies had mobilized.

@landsea7332 Thanks.
2
@closetglobe.IRGUN.NW0 German agressors? Who mobilized first???
2
@oliverhoffmann1335 Simplistic explanations for simple minds...
2
@ararune3734 Israel has been waging war on Palestinians for over 75 years now.
2
@James-kv6kb Sold the Germans what equipment, and prior to 1914???
2
@maxpower3990 Fact is France mobilized first, which was a defacto declaration of war against Germany.
1
@landsea7332 I'd like to see the primary sources for those assertions. Would you happen to know if there were appropriate foot notes in MacMillan's book?
1
@ommsterlitz1805 Yammering rubbish!
1
@ommsterlitz1805 Mein lieber Freund; you know not of what you speak! It is better to keep quiet and be thought a fool that to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
1
@ommsterlitz1805 It is better to keep silent... You forgot that little fact that for WWII France, Britain, and USA defacto declared war on Germany.
1
@bretedwards2899 There are several books that agree with you: The Chief Culprit and Icebreaker. Both by the same author. There are numerous others, also.
1
@PSDuck216 'Twas ever thus.
1
@reinholdmueller4882 Indeed! Over a period of 400 years France invaded German territory 40 times!
1
Su: Let's face it, whatever one is taught in school or the mass media regarding Germany and the WW, are lies. The exact opposite of that politically correct nonsense is much closer to the truth. For WWI I suggest you read The Pity of War by Niall Ferguson.
1
mi: France and Russia mobilized first, which was a defacto declaration of war on Germany. Germany declared war only after this mobilization of her enemies.
1
@daxhnsdax You are wrong. In those days, mobilizing your army was a declaration of war on your neighbour.
1
@daxhnsdax If it makes you happy to blame Germany, so be it.
1
CN: There was no independent Poland, and Belgium sided with France...
1
@CNCTEMATIC The rest is history. Fact is Belgium sided with France and also provided an easy path for a British invasion.
1
For the naysayers here who like to blame all of their world's ills on Germany, read the book The Pity of War by Niall Ferguson. He makes a good case that Britain had absolutely no reason to declare war on Germany. Without Britain, and their sucking the USA into that mess, the war would have been over very quickly. But no, war mongering Britain and USA had to stick their nose in where it was not needed or wanted. But, they finally received their just rewards. Both countries are turning into social, judicial, and political cesspools. Good on them!
1
@MLB1212 Agreed. But judging by the various countries' actions, Germany bears the least blame.
1
@StevenBrown-w5b Bullshit.
1
tri: France and Russia had mobilized their armies, a defacto declaration of war, BEFORE Germany declared war! Belgium sided with France and became the meat in that sandwich. Tough.
1
@ShadowTZX1 Russia mobilized first; that was a defacto declaration of war.
1
@flashgordon6670 bullshit. it was britains fault that a world war developed.
1
@booradley6832 You are wrong with your assertions of Serbian government non-involvement.
1
ma: And you are wrong! Whoever mobilizes first begins the war, because mobilization was a defacto declaration of war. After that, whoever invaded whom first is immaterial. Belgium and Luxemburg sided with France and became the meat in that sandwich. Tough.
1
q: Ant evidence???
1
@qman2261 Wouldn't that fly in the face of the fact that the German Kaiser appealed to the Tzar to stop and reverse the Russian mobilization? Further, to whom was the German declaration of war addressed? Thanks.
1
@maximkretsch7134 Excellent summary! Most people fail to appreciate the fact that at that time the mobilization of one's military was a defacto declaration of war. Based on that very simple fact Germany was the last country to get into that war.
1
john: I do not believe that Germany was envious of British foreign trade; indeed, the opposite is much closer to the truth.
