  1. Practice and memorize a couple of hard-core come-backs. When I was in school there were wise guys who'd pick on anybody, including me, who were too polite or slow for a hard and snappy reply; thus I kept these two handy: "If I want any s..t from you I'll squeeze your head." "If I want any lip from you I'll rattle my zipper." You won't make any friends with these, but then I never cared for that type of "friend".

  3. OA: If it is a light-hearted joke, just laugh it off. Or say: "Good to hear you at it again, Joe", or "I see that ol' Joe is out of original ideas", or "Joe, why don't you put on a new recording?" If it is a nasty attack I have used the expression "If I want any crap from you I'll squeeze your head." A crasser retort would be "If I wand any lip from you I'll rattle my zipper." Many people, myself included, are slow with biting retorts; consequently it behooves us to have a few practised retorts at the ready when necessary.

  4. To the query "How are you?" I've used the reply: "My wife told me that I'm wonderful"! That will certainly raise eyebrows and distinguish you from the run-of-the-mill types.
