As proof I offer all the Nobel Prizes German scientists had won up to 1945. Suggest you read the book "The Pity of War", and "The Myth of German Villainy". One more thing. The discoverer of atmospheric air pressure was Otto von Guericke. He demonstrated his findings with the Magdeburg Hemispheres. Fascinating experiments with descriptions easily found on google. Then there is black powder reinvented by the monk Berthold Schwartz. Granted this had been used in China much earlier but, was only used for fireworks there. BTW black = Schwartz in German. Black power does not have the colour black.

  21. There is more than that to the German vocabulary! In the German language are words such as compound nouns. These are a number of nouns that are run together to describe a complex idea or object. Best of all, these words can be made on the spur of the moment as required. In English that might take a sentence or two. In French perhaps a whole paragraph. The bad part, for foreigners at least, is that these words are not listed in any Duden/dictionary; well, perhaps the most common ones are.

  46. German is one of the very few languages that permits compound nouns. These can be formed on the spur of the moment for a given occasion. Unless you can recognize the individual nouns making up the word, it is exceedingly difficult to discern the meaning of the word. A dictionary would be useless. All languages have a different vocabulary and grammar for the written and the spoken language.
