  2. jar: Canadian here, and when I still occupied a cubicle farm I showed up on time. For 40 years my starting time was 8 am, and that's when I was in my office. The demand to be 15 minutes early I would have ignored. A contract is a contract. I spent enough of my own time for business travel for which I was not compensated.

  4. Germans know how to drive! The mortality rate per Km driven is much lower on the Autobahn than on USA highways.

  5.  @bruceketcheson4877  I would agree the in the short term renting accommodation is less costly. However, once you retire and are on a fixed income this picture changes. Presumably your home is paid by that time and your housing costs are more or less fixed. Then there is the quality of life. I'm a homebody myself, and my wife prevails upon me to go out and do stuff which is OK. However, pleasant home surroundings are very important to me for my well being.
