  19. Chevy Chase and his family in National Lampoon’s Vacation were there for less than 5 minutes. IMO, Bryce, Yellowstone, and Black Canyon of the Gunnison are all nicer, with the last one being much less crowded. However, no one seems to visit the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, which IMO, blows away the south rim, and is far less crowded. People have to explore more, but maybe not, just let them stay at the south rim.

  22. New Mexico, especially Albuquerque is a crappy place to drive. Omaha, Nebraska sucks even more with shitty drivers. In Denver people drive like crazy no matter what time of year, especially on the 70 coming off the front range to the western city limits. 25 is always a parking lot.

  25. Before I guess, working for someone else no matter what state you are in sucks and is dangerous physically and psychologically. Going on 28 years of it, and I have lived in 4 different states. Now for the guesswork: Mississippi, Arizona, New Mexico, Louisiana, Alabama, Alaska, North Dakota, West Virginia, Arkansas, and Wyoming. Going for 5 or better.

  30. Omaha for sure. Denver in the early 90s was more run down versus today, but the drug and homelessness factors today probably would negate that.

  32. They had nice fountains when I visited there years ago. It was actually less expensive to fly out of KC airport compared to the Omaha Epply Airport. Flew to Florida several times when I lived in Omaha and made the 180 mile drive to KC airport and saved between 150 and 200 dollars including the parking and the gas, but that was the early 2000s However, there was a lot of acreage for not much of an airport on the outskirts of the city proper. Bathrooms?? Who needs them??

  33.  @jasonpowell121  Me Southern AZ, 78 degrees today. Been away from Omaha for about a decade and I do not miss those Arctic Blasts either. Unlike Florida, AZ, where I live, does get around 40 at night, due to it’s lack of proximity to any large body of water.

  36. I’ll take a guess: Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Missouri, West Virginia, New Mexico, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Idaho. However, I do think that the majority of people in these states would survive an apocalyptic type of disaster over someone from an affluent suburb outside of NY. The suburbanite from NY would be crying, while the “low IQ standardized test person” from my aforementioned guess list would devise some ingenious ways to survive.

  38. Did I somehow predict the future? This comment was/is on 8:17 AM PST on May 5, 2020. Stay safe everyone and I totally appreciate all the work the first responders are doing worldwide. Also, thanks to everyone that has to work with the public in any capacity. Also it irks me when people feel they have the need to protest not being able to use the beaches in CA and in FL. Liberty University (not sure if that is the correct name?) made a good choice too, putting people at risk, so students can experience the humanities within a Petri dish. Easier said than done, but mental fortitude and willpower are both extremely important these days.

  40. Guesses are, bugs, rain, winters, political rivalry between different parts, lack of gainful employment, Detroit, taxes, highway infrastructure, crooked politicians, crazy zealots on both the right and left, football rivalries, but if you like neither, then you will be a lonely soul.

  42. I was born in Stamford in the late 60s and then we moved to nearby Norwalk, and my childhood home cost a mere 55k back in 1970. Looked at it recently on Zillow, and it zestimated for 2.2 million. Never saw any of that appreciation in my pocket because we moved in 1977. The taxes also in both Stamford and Norwalk are horrendous. The taxes alone, can price a person out, let alone the cost of a house there. Spent most of my life in the Midwest and in Arizona, as just an ordinary breathing citizen.

  47.  @peteshallcross787 Thought about visiting the UP, the Door Peninsula, and Northern WI along Lake Superior. Only been to WI once (Port Washington, Delafield, and Madison) and it looked nice. The great thing, is that WI actually has water, something that is getting scarcer in virtually all of the western states.
