Guessing: Cost of living, crime, political conflicts, weather, traffic, job pay, marijuana, homelessness, too much sprawl in the urban areas, and too many transplants.

Personally I chose Tucson over Co Springs back in 15, and I definitely like it better. Used to live near Denver, and Co Springs definitely has a different vibe; a more conservative one, and it was definitely safer to walk around within the town/city. If you ski or snowboard, it would probably be faster to travel to Wolf Creek, Crested Butte, or Northern NM, because I am pretty sure there are no ski areas in the CO Springs area, and making the trip to Denver along 25, and west on 70 will take forever, and once you get to the resort, it will almost always be overcrowded.

Make sure you pack the bug spray in VT, or any other area in that region , because the mosquitoes and gnats are horrendous there in the summer. NH coast is nearby which is good. The skiing is much better in New England too, sans places like Killington which can get very crowded, but then again, it can take hours upon hours to drive to Copper Mountain from Denver along I-70.

@peteshallcross787 Thought about visiting the UP, the Door Peninsula, and Northern WI along Lake Superior. Only been to WI once (Port Washington, Delafield, and Madison) and it looked nice. The great thing, is that WI actually has water, something that is getting scarcer in virtually all of the western states.

In Phoenix and Tucson, I smell marijuana everywhere. It literally goes through the vents in my car because every other car is hotboxing it while in transit. Same thing, if I am out and about.
