As beautiful as Maine is, I would only live there if I was retired and had zero financial obligations. Coastal Maine is probably being overcrowded by Bostonians and the like, driving real estate through the roof along with those high taxes to boot. Inland Maine is probably less expensive overall. Check out Presque Isle or Rumford. Only been to Maine twice, but have spent enough time there on both visits to make that educated guess.

Maine has beautiful mountains and better skiing than AZ, especially the latter.

IMO Sedona is too overcrowded and not fun like it used to be in the early 2000s and before. Prescott is better. However, I would never live in either. Both have seasons, but Prescott is colder overall due to elevation and is more forested. Tucson summers are about 5 to 7 degrees cooler than Phoenix, due to it being higher elevation and much less of a concrete jungle. Tucson is also close to sky islands (i,e Madera Canyon and Mount Lemon) where you can lose 15 to 25 degrees due to elevation.

Medical care sucks here, totally agree. Doctors work from 9 to 3 here which sucks for people who actually work here. I think I trust used car salespeople more. I try to avoid doctors at all cost here. Midwest has the best in that department. Thinking about renting my house here when I retire and buying a small one in MN, WI, or UP MI

@dreamweaver8210 Thought the same thing.

AZ resident now, but thinking in 10 years about Grand Marais, MI or Grand Marais, MN, because I might need some water

Pool could also equal HOA fee/fine in AZ

@stevena3871 Like that Poverty with a view. Sounds like the Prescott area.

Thought that too

Been to the Tucson Mall several times and it is definitely not in the Catalina Foothills. I do not live in the Catalina Foothills, but my suburb is safe, but the housing prices were not able to hold a candle to the one’s on this list. I think the Foothills has a remainder of a mall from days of yore which is actually in the foothills.

Duluth is looking better each day, for my retirement. More water, better healthcare, better fall foliage etc. Only been there once and I was pretty impressed. The only other place I like better than that is NH. Wife has family in southwestern IA

Great hiking trail, called Wild Burro
1
I heard it was called Snottsdale

@hughes-520 Still far enough away where one’s safety is more compromised.

No offense, and I live around there, but it was probably too ghetto for this list.

Great town, and I visit there from time to time, but it is not quite a metro area. Unless you want to call it the greater Flagstaff/Williams/Ash Fork region.

Boring, the ski area is too overcrowded, trains, traffic from Phoenix, and the hotels are a rip off/dilapidated/ or both. Santa Fe is nicer in all aspects and is worth the extra 4 hour drive if you are coming from points south in AZ

Guessing: Marana, Oro Valley, Scottsdale, Buckeye, Chandler, Gilbert, Green Valley, Vail, Queen Creek, Mesa, and Tempe
