  5.  @Distress.  In ALL actuality, the highway/road network is not only paid for by gas taxes/"user fees", but by GENERAL TAXPAYER'S DOLLARS; This is where the VAST MAJORITY of the funding comes from!!

ONE THING CAN, HOWEVER, BE PROVEN: General Motors and Ford STILL made efforts to maintain automotive dominance of ground transportation in Los Angeles; when rails were laid after only a 27-year hiatus (from 1963 to 1990), an organization popped up out of seemingly NOWHERE, called the Labor Community Strategy Center, and they created a sidekick group known as the Bus Riders' Union; their sole purpose of their activities was to attempt to kill off ALL rail construction, and FORCE the transit-riding public to use nothing but buses!!!! Since a bus is nothing but an AUTOMOBILE, and also since people can purchase, for all practical purposes, a machine that's the EXACT SAME THING as that bus (except, of course, for size and weight), PEOPLE WILL TEND TO BUY AND USE THEIR OWN VEHICLES INSTEAD!!!!!! THIS IS THE WHOLE IDEA BEHIND THE ELIMINATION OF RAIL-BASED PASSENGER TRANSPORTATION; TO FORCE EVERYONE TO BUY AND USE THEIR OWN CARS!!!!!!!!!!
