I'm not an engineer, just a general intelligent layperson, but when I saw him talking about his decisions and choices, he came across as foolhardy and hubristic.
This was before I knew anything about what transpired.
He didn't come acry as someone who should be in charge of such a high stakes project, and DEFINITELY not one that was effectively charging big bucks to members of the public (albeit very rich ones) to take part in a risky test mission.
Fair enough for him to rusk his own skin, but he shouldn't have taken innocent people down with him. That's unforgivable.
And I KNOW that the paperwork they signed outlined the risks of death, multiple times throughout the contract. But even so, they TRUSTED him to get them there.
Had they realised the risks were as high as they actually were, they wouldn't have risked it.
But they were taken in by his gung-ho, maverick machismo.
Ironic that the same hubris that led to the original Titanic disaster, has led to this one. Human nature hasn't changed since that time.
We still think we're more in control and cleverer than we are 🤷
