I remember on the 1980's even women who wanted breast "reductions" not even breast removal, were sent for psychological assessments and put on three year long waiting lists before they were allowed their surgery. This assessment and waiting time was to make sure that they were fully informed of the risks and consequences and had the opportunity to make sure that it was a surgery they actually did want AND had realistic expectations of. And these were adult women, not teen-agers or children. What's so different now?
