  1. 1:19:30 Theres nothing simplistic about CRYPTIC crosswords! They are FIENDISH and get your brain thinking several ways around a clue. You can be picking over clues for days. And when you get one.... man it's a great feeling. Trust me, there is NOTHING simplistic about a cryptic crossword. You have to think in several different lateral ways and there are many different approaches for the different types of cryptic clue. They are an incredible brain workout 🤓✏️. Some people just can't do them. They require you to crack the code of the clue first and foremost. There's a great episode of Inside No 9 that's specifically about a cryptic crossword setter. It provides a crash starter course in how to approach the clues and think around them. It's well worth a watch 🤓✏️ Plus, I have a cryptic crossword "buddy". We help each other out with the weekly crossword and have long conversations figuring them out or giving each other clues to help each other out 🤓✏️ We each have our preferred way of approaching the clues so we get different clues at different rates and complement each other's skills very well. It's great mental and social exercise for us and something we look forward to. It's great fun!!!
