But I don't think Matt's need for praise and approval of strangers is of the same scale as that of entertainers of all kinds; music industry artists, comedians, actors etc. People who crave attention to addictive levels tend to go into acting, comedy, music. They tend to be needy and addictive people which is why many of them become hooked on drugs, alcohol and sex

Comedians, performers in general which is why Hollywood is so woke, crave love and affection from audiences. Without it, they starve. They're very needy people.

Matt, the thing is, comedians and all entertainers, thrive on public adoration, it's their meat and drink. Yes, he's old and rich, but as a needy person with narcissistic "look at me" tendencies, they'll do anything but be deprived of that adoration. They're addicted to it. Presumably he doesn't want to be remembered as the grumpy old guy who couldn't change with the times, who was a "bigot". The push back he received will have wounded him. They need constant praise. They feel that they can't live without it. It's a bit pathetic for a grown adult isn't it but there it is🤦🏻‍♀️
