@kwakester Historically the Marxist movements will also bring in recruits from the International Socialist movement, mercenaries and criminal syndicates / gangs when the conflict goes hot.

@ourvaluesarewhoweareinadem4093 Yes I know and they tried the same in the Spanish Civil war but by then the European Nationalist movements were organised enough to counter it.

@ourvaluesarewhoweareinadem4093 Yes the Army of Africa - Morrocan recruits turned the tide on the Republican forces but Franco initially needed the help of Germany and Italy to airlift the troops to Spain as the navy was initially loyal to the Republican forces. My paternal grandfather was in the GNR - National Republican Guard that patrolled the border between Portugal and Spain, he would tell stories about preventing Marxist infiltrators fleeing from the Franco forces from establishing themselves inside Portugal. Only later as a young adult did I realise what he meant with 'Preventing' as the infiltrators were not arrested,nor allowed to stay,nor allowed to return. There were also Portuguese volunteers that went over to Spain- Viriatos,to help the Nationalists but this was mostly non-combative.
