I think that the Italians had a " Hug a Chinese " campaign organised by the Socialists to show that they are not xenophobic, the majority of the Chinese people in the Northern Italy region are apparently from Wuhan and the Italian population is demographically older . The tragic outcome in Northern Italy would make sense if this was the case. I have a slightly different version in Portugal where it translates to - if you see the beard of your neighbour burning then you put yours under water
