  2. They are in an Operational encirclement​ status and risk losing their supply lines into Kursk completely as well as Total encirclement. If they try a mass withdraw they risk mass casualties due to the Russians being able to freely strike any withdrawing columns like the Germans trying to leave the Falaise pocket. If they stay and fight they will eventually have to surrender of fight to the death like the Germans in Stalingrad.
