These are fair comments. Nevertheless, they overlook the Ukrainian Military Command change from GEN Zaluzhny to GEN Syrskyi. They do not mention Ukraine’s waste of resources, troops and NATO equipment, used in Offensive Operations in 2023 by GEN Zaluzhny. The failed to discuss the lack of Strategic Defense Lines GEN Zaluzhny could have ordered build by October 2023, instead of writing 2 articles condemning Western aid for his personal failures at Offensive Operations. Without understanding what failed, Ukrainians cannot hope to succeed better than Russians in Offensive Operations. In particular, who the Commander of Ukraine’s 110TH Brigade Infantry Team (Mech)? He was forward at Avdiivka. Why did he not build his own layered defense lines to the City, then at the Chemical Factory, then at Orlivka? Who is his Divisional Commander of the Avdiivka Front? These 2 Commanders need to be removed and retrained at a NATO Officer school in Germany if they are given US clearance. They failed to prepare a structured, timely retrograde Defensive Operation. They got people in their Command killed. What GEN Syrskyi has so far done looks like a NATO quality Defensive Operation. He risked one of his top 2 Brigades to save the 110TH Brigade at Avdiivka. It was hasty and ugly but he saved 80% of the force. Then he fought a withdrawal to terrain advantaged positions buying enough time to dig in. He even used opportunistic counterattacks to delay and even push back Russian advances. Simultaneously, GEN Syrskyi started building hardened defensive lines even further back to make Russians pay dearly for every meter. Nevertheless, counterattacks are NOT major Offensive Operations. I will wait until ammo and F16s arrive to see if he can battle plan successful Offensive Operations. PS: In April 2022, I posted on Times Radio and the German Channel my comparison between Russia fighting Ukraine and George Foreman fighting Muhammad Ali. To me, Ukraine was doing Ali’s Rooe-A-Dope compared to Foreman’s Slug Big Punches strategy. Ali scored a knockout after Foreman tired himself out. Ukrainians will also win by knockout!!! @SWRural-fk2ub You are so clueless on Military AARs (After Action Reviews). When they are written, they are honest to fix things for the future. The US Desert Storm Campaign/Kuwaiti Liberation had an AAR. Good points were preserved and even with an overwhelming victory, bad points were vetted and fixed. GEN Zaluzhny used 2 articles to blame Ukraine’s Allies for HIS failures. Then he started speculation of equipment needed to win the US is only testing. How should his AAR have been written? I F-ed up. I tried attriting Russians who defeated both Napoleon and Hitler by absorbing attrition losses. This was my 1ST mistake. I also used Dilution Of Force by spreading out my limited resources over 8 Offensive Operations, of which only 3 had limited advancement. I, GEN Zaluzhny, rejected US/NATO advice to use Economy Of Force and concentrate on just 1 major Offensive Operations using 3 coordinated Axis Of Advance to cut the Russian land bridge. Additionally, both I and the Russians were surprised at the success during the Bakhmut South Flank Offensive. I should have Exploited Success by adding 3-5 additional Brigades to this fight to overwhelm Russians and liberate either Popasna or Horlivka. This was not planned by you have to make combat FRAGOs. We will see in the future if Ukrainian Offensive Operations improve under GEN Syrskyi. His Defensive Operations are being executed much more like a NATO Commander would order.

@suzyallen332 The Russian Military has equipment changes. They do not change schemes, or strategies, or their training of troops. What is there to learn from them except that mass is still a resource to factor into plans? Russia has experimented well with evading Ukrainian air defenses. However, I am not sure if this is not just copying Ukrainian schemes used 1ST. I am still waiting to see Ukraine Offensive Operations using NATO schemes of maneuver.

@petermaunsell4575 I agree clueless sounds strong, but is not a derogatory name. I was responding another poster trying to support GEN Zaluzhny’s 2 articles. Those articles damaged him and Ukraine. My point was to show how an AAR should be written. I am very upset GEN Zaluzhny failed to comprehend Ukrainians had 1 good chance to impact the war using the US battle plan and blew it. Additionally, the Washington Post just quoted a senior Ukrainian Military Leader as Ukrainians cannot liberate their territory. Who is this unnamed senior Ukrainian Military Leader, GEN Zaluzhny?
