  1. Normally I would not challenge a Russian opposition leader who knows well the pulse of his people. However, military coups are not always led by the passive political Generals. Often it is ambitious Colonels who control a Brigade in a key area or base. It would not take much: An SSR ethnic uprising; a base Commander not wanting to go to Ukraine; a Unit Commander whom the US makes contact. Job 1 in each case: kill the local GRU/KGB Unit and control the local political apparatus. Then it’s hang on until others take up arms too. In the ethnic SSR areas, this is easier to achieve. This might be where it starts. The other areas would be follow on rebellions. The rebels would be wise to ally with local democratic groups.
