  1. Look, many Ukrainians fighting for Nazi Germany were in put into POW camps run by the US, UK, and France. After the war, POWs returning to Soviet Ukraine were persecuted or killed. Many Ukrainian POWs opted for resettlement in the US, including my area in New Jersey. Ethnic German POWs were settled nearby too. Often ethnic communities and churches offered sponsorships and language training. Not every soldier in the Nazi Army was a card carry Nazi. The Soviet’s acted as if this was true. However, knowing actual families, only some of the ethnic Germans and none of the Ukrainians held Nazi sympathies. The choices Ukrainians faced were limited especially after Stalin’s forces famine and Soviet resettlement of Ukrainians in Siberia and the Far East.
