The UK is only country in the world that can create its only trade deals and have complete tarrif free access to the EU single market via Northern Ireland. Who ever stratagised this was a genius, no one saw this coming...

@martynjones8560 orthern Ireland remains in the EU single market. Northern Ireland is part of the UK. Great Britain can sign its own trade agreements. They have the best of both worlds.

@martynjones8560 why? We are currently about to sign a trade deal with cptpp and doesn't Northern Ireland currently have access to the EU single market? Am I wrong?

@uingaeoc3905 ow does it send goods to the Republic then? As far as i understand no customs border exists between Northern Ireland and the EU.

@uingaeoc3905 Northern Ireland is part of the UK and has complete tarrif free access to the single market.

@uingaeoc3905 he whole point of the protocol was to maintain frictionless trade between north and south was it not? Northern Ireland (which is the UK) has frictionless trade with the EU. Why am I wrong?

@uingaeoc3905 The arrangements are not the same. Northern Ireland remains in the single market. Great Britain is no longer in the single market.

@uingaeoc3905 Unfettered market access to the European Union The EU imported over €1,935bn of goods in 2019. For goods moving between Northern Ireland and the EU there are: No checks or processes No customs duties or tariffs No customs border between Northern Ireland and the EU No need to register for VAT in each EU member state Northern Ireland maintains regulatory alignment on goods with the EU

@vullings1968 they could open a factory in Northern Ireland that processed Australia beef into pies and trade the pie with the rest of the EU tarrif free.
