It like the rest of the economy its feeling the pinch of rising costs. But rising cost are being offset by other factors. But since the Brexit vote things have improved immeasurably, take dairy farming the spot price of milk has increased 300%. All helping the industry out. The bigger picture is actually okay.

@Crashawsome since 2016. Since the brexit vote. and 12% in one year is still very good.

@donparkvideos farmers like to complain. Its what they do. Most live in large houses and own 100s of acres of land in the middle of the countryside and have millions of pounds worth of assets. Please explain why they are complaining again?

@donparkvideos let's just think about what is going on, since the Brexit vote farm gate prices have been very good. Wheat, milk beef and lamb. But since we left Boris has decided to abolish the current subsidies scheme and replace it with an environmental payment. They are currently gradually removing the current scheme and haven't actually got the new scheme in place. It was actually a Tory pledge they wouldn't do this. BUT the shortfall in revenue is being made up for with the very good farm gate prices. Also it's been a very good year for farmers, harvest went well and crops are in the ground. Their also a train of thought farmers shouldn't need subsidies and should survive on their own two feet.

@donparkvideos I work in agriculture and see farm accounts. Keep in mind alot of Tory mps and voters are landowners anyway. Its a complicated debate, but a genuine outcome of the new government schemes will be that farmers will stop producing the food we need and put all their land into environmental schemes because it is more economically viable (and alot easier l)

@donparkvideos i don't know what the end goal is. But it's not a cheap business producing food. You need a huge capital outlay before you've even sold anything and markets are volatile. If some one will pay you more money to plant trees and flowers, why would you produce any food? You wouldn't. They have the same attitude for our energy. They just seem to want to import it all. Arguably it helps them achieve net zero carbon emissions. Successive Britsh governments do not care about farming, a proportion of defra is ran by people who would be quite happy getting rid of the whole industry.

@donparkvideos do you understand what a discussion is? I will sum every up in three easy to understand bullet points for you 1) Farming has improved immeasurably since the Brexit vote. Fact. 2) Farmers are still making money, but are under pressure due to the increasing costs and a new confusing subsidies payment which isn't in place yet 3) Correct, that's the point I am trying to highlight, well done. This is all just theory though. Farmers have been through alot worse and family farms tend to just keep going.
