This was extremely well explained and presented. I'm 20+ years out of high school and was curious about this topic. I tried other videos but they are riddled with so much scientific jargon that I can't tell one term from another much less understand the topic at hand. Of course, they left some important things out making it more difficult than it has to be. You made this video understandable for everyone regardless of age or educational background - as it should be! Thank you!

Yes they are. I'm a native Spanish and English speaker. While I understand a good amount of Italian, now that I've been studying for a few months, the prepositions and the verb tenses are very tough to memorize as they are much more complicated than Spanish. This is why I call out other Spanish speakers who claim that learning Italian comes easy to them. They obviously exaggerate and confuse word translation with proper speaking ability. I mean, I can say a few phrases in Chinese but I'm by no means a Chinese speaker nor does it come easy to me. I don't have any Italian people to speak to and of course that adds another element of difficulty.

Wow! This helps so much! I wish I had this table when I started learning Italian!! This table makes things a lot easier to remember. Thanks!!

I came across this topic in one of my lessons a couple of months ago and it made no sense so I moved on. Today, I came across them again and looked up your video and I finally get it!! I'm so happy because verb conjugations in general are a big weakness of mine that I need to learn to speak Italian. I have a relatively large Italian vocabulary but without proper verb conjugations I'll never be able to have a dialog in Italian. I'm one step close now. Thank you so much!!

Yep. I feel that this is the problem with learning Italian from English as there are not always good direct translations and you basically have to learn as you go. That said, I think there is value in knowing the basic definitions of each pronouns and pick up the rest as you start speaking and listening to others speak.

Unfortunately, Italian prepositions have overlapping translations. But let me know it worked out for you. I might need to do something similar.

Great lesson! Since Italian has the pronoun included in the verb can't we just drop the pronoun altogether? Also, on 3:29 shouldn't the translation read "you guys" since the verb "velete" is for plural? Thanks!

@colinmccarthy7921 . I'm intermediate in Italian after a few months of study. I know I can be fluent with more effort but I need to speak it to gain true fluency. The key is to keep at it. Its hard work but worth it in my opinion. I want to learn other languages but I won't start another one until I'm fully conversational in Italian.

You need to be doing two hours of study per day or you'll die of old age before you learn to speak fluent Italian!

Italian is hard as a Spanish speaker due to the prepositions and verb tenses but I feel that Portuguese would be harder. Also, how different is Brazilian Portuguese from the mother country? Can people from each country understand each other?

@NiccoloSeilo . Damn bro.

Its been a year since your comment. Has your Italian improved?

@colinmccarthy7921 . That sucks man. I have about 3 months of active study in Italian and while I don't consider myself fluent I think I have learned a lot and I'm on the verge of being conversational. I started studying Italian early this year with no prior knowledge but then took about 6 months completely off. I study Italian as a hobby. I think the grammar is definitely tough even as a Spanish speaker. However, I study 1-2 hours per day (sometimes as much as 4 hours per day) and recently started watching Netflix in Italian with Italian subtitles so I can look up any words that I don't understand. Its a slow process (very slow) but this is the only way I can be exposed to new vocabulary and get a hold of the grammar. I think if you don't have someone to practice with and help you out its much more difficult. It sounds to me like you have a real passion for learning languages so I think you should stick to it and don't give up. I'm almost done with the Busuu Italian course and I really like it as its pretty comprehensive. Personally, I won't move to another language until I'm fully conversational in Italian. Next, I plan to learn Russian. French and Chinese are on my radar but that's in the far future. Thanks for the reply and good luck to you!
