  2.  LordGoomba  . 99% of people wouldn't be able to stomach watching live combat operations of WWI or even WWII. The carnage has to be something utterly incomprehensible and nauseating for the general public with people being blown to pieces all over. I thought the intro to Saving Private Ryan was about as close as we could ever experience WWII trench/amphibious warfare. At the time of the film's release many people walked out as they couldn't force themselves to see more. I imagine that combat operations of WWI and WWII were of a scale that reproducing it in film can't ever do justice to the suffering (mental and physical) of those soldiers.

  3.  @paareth  . That's pretty wild. It would explain why Russia is having such a difficult time breaking through. Even if Russia wins the war on paper they may not be able to hold on to the territory with so many armed citizens fighting back.

  12. There is plenty of footage of wars going back to WWII. Don't act so surprised. The only difference is the public's access to such footage.
