@graemejohnson9025 but way faster around the track (15 to 30s faster !) especially around corners and they brake much harder, so it's much harder on the body also the fastest formula 1 ever was 231 mph in 2005 in 1976 the top speed was 195mph and lauda crashed at 175mph. the cars were way slower in every aspects I'm not downplaying the records at the time , safety was way worse and you could die in any crash. but the Gs that current drivers experience during braking or cornering are so strong that there is not a lot of room for improvement without affecting the precision of the driving. without regulation on aero, the drivers would simply pass out in the corners or they would need g suits like jet fighters

@graemejohnson9025 Well you can disagree with F1 or not like it but it was always manufacturers racing each other with lots of money, smart engineering, and great drivers, in this order. very rarely a driver could win the championship with a slower car, but usually the team that could afford the best car could also afford (some of) the best drivers and win. Lauda won with Ferrari and McLaren when they were at their peak, not with an underdog underperforming car.. Even within the same team, drivers didn't always have the same performance or the same attention, so it was almost never a "fair fight"

@graemejohnson9025 also car were way slower in the lauda era. doesn't mean that they were easier, but physical impact on the driver was not as extreme (until the car crashed...) I don't see F1 rebooting to lower tech then current road cars like manual transmissions, but maybe that would be te way to introduce more driving skills.

@graemejohnson9025 but superkart doesn't get sponsors or viewers as excited as F1. but I agree money weighs too much . personally I find aero is too important and is never going to trickle down to road cars anyway. but giving even more importance to the engines would make money even more important so it's tough to find the balance
