I think the super fans shifts our perception into thinking most tesla owners are like them, or even share a lot in common. living in theDC area there's a LOT of tesla's on the roads, but nobody seems interested in racing them for instance. mostly older people, they like to have performance or at least dual motor version but drive them like they were mitsubishi mirage, don't put wrap on them or vanity plates. young car enthusiast seem to prefer type r or miatas, s2000. pretty far from stereotypes, or at least lets agree there are several stereotypes, and the most visible on social media are not the most visible on the roads

I'm not sure even most hardcore elon fans would buy a tesla just based on elon musk personality. for instance if they rebadged a leaf. the cult works because the cars are somehow mainly inline with his "philosophy" even if they fall short of some aspects like affordability, self driving , or the "Mission" to make ev transition as fast as possible
