@nas4apps the question is not why the strikes, but how. public post office having a strike and not delivering any mail or packages could be considered just a strike. blocking correspondence and preventing Tesla to pick up their package sounds completely illegal but I don't know Norwegian law so just my opinion

@mechantl0up well I do think Tesla is wrong to fight so hard against unions in every country but if jurisdiction says they don't have to, but unions are trying to force them it sounds like they have the law with them. if the unions resort to illegal actions I guess they are running out of options to twist Tesla's arm. it is usually better to have workers and companies agree through negotiations. btw Tesla is no stranger to not following law like forcing workers to work during covid shutdown and firing people who refused. other companies are also always crossing the line or finding ways around it, like using small contractors that are exclusively working for one car company so that they don't have to hire and when they don't need them they go bankrupt with people losing their jobs with no compensation. Tesla is vertically integrated so they have to hire but ultimately their goal is to get rid of as many workers as possible through automation. it's not a black and white situation

@psychicspy with no unions wages and benefits are brought down. when market is favorable to workers they can pick the best job offer and they will go to the highest bidder. but usually they don't have multiple offers and when you have no job and you are qualified worker with a family to provide, you can't say no to a job offer that's how you have poor workers all over the world working their ass off just to survive. northern Europe is different workers have decent work conditions and unions are part of the reason why they do

@dbwelder9159 of course each work contract is an agreement. with no union they can negotiate down the terms of the contract for each employer. unless you have multiple job offers the company has the leverage to negotiate

@gmy33 they are fine until they are replaced by a robot and given a week notice and no compensation

@tangfors yeah Tesla is applying good old divide and conquer strategy. fighting unions tooth and nails in every country. What made sense in the "startup" phase of Tesla where cash was their biggest issue is now turned into a political stance from Elon Musk to fight for an unregulated work market. his vision is a mixed of old school family owned factory with workers living in employer owned housing, the boss being god on earth (disagree on anything and you're fired same day), but without the promise of a lifetime job, and startup mindset, where people have to do whatever crazy hours to do meet some insane deadlines he made up, and are supposed to be conscious about being part of a mission but they don't really get any advantage from either family owned or startup business.
