@electric7487 longer strokes means smaller bore so combustion chamber is less flat, combustion is a bit more efficient, and there is less heat transfer to the cylinder, so again better efficiency. short stroke allows faster revving, larger valves and more cooling so more high revving power. because of this short stroke engines are tuned for more top end torque, thus less low end torque because combustion engine cannot be efficient across a very wide rpm range. this is the most important reason for short strokes having more low end torque (think twin cruiser vs inline four sports bike). but it doesn't mean that long stroke necessarily have higher maximum torque. for more complete understanding google BMEP brake lean effective pressure. it is the best way to measure torque independently of displacement, number if cylinders or RPMs. you will see that engines with the most torque per displacement are not slow revving engines but Ferrari V12 or F1 engines. this torque is just not available at low Rpms https://youtu.be/bE_1JYrlYYU
