  1. They can give me 10k for my Purdue degree. Graduated in 1982. Took me 7 years to pay off those loans.

  3.  @P.90.603  yes...it's called inflation. I also experienced inflation during Carter years. It's debt. Debt doesn't change it's meaning. Everything is relative with what is going on in present time. My loans were around 25k. Why so high...living expenses! The dorms were first come first serve. Supply and demand = price. Rent was huge back then as was gas and food. Government should not pay off anyone's debt. If they go for student loans why not va mortgage loans or car loans, etc. You sign a contract for the debt. The taxpayer didn't sign up for your loan.

  4.  @P.90.603  oh and by the way if you look at the mortgage rates back then and compare them to now ..you would see they were up to 15% on 30 year loans in 1984. No lie. Today a home loan is 3 or 4% with nothing down.
