I grew up in 60's. Back then they put learning disabled and mentally retarded children with normal main stream. It's was a mess. I remember having over 40 kids in on class. You had kids screaming and crying with only one teacher who eventually reverted to abuse. Absolutely horrible. They didn't know about learning disabilities back then. Kids were just deemed weird, crazy or funny. Class clowns. We didn't learn anything of value back then...but we did learn survival. I bet majority of people my age today have depression, anxiety, panic, etc because a normal child was traumatized back then on seeing mentally handicap children melt down.
