P.M. I work in local government where I did do just that in my life. I also have been laid off too. It's not a good place, but eventually you get over the hump and begin anew.

@Justcallmerita never said it was fun. Look, I've been laid off furloughed and unemployed in my life. What you learn from the ordeal is to always have extra savings to cover yourself. Keep debts low. I've moved to 3 states for bread and butter. It's not fun. But you do survive. One thing I did note about working for government, as you work longer for it, you lose sight as to WHO your working for. So many, especially the top cheese forget they work for the people. I noted that the older top cheese were the worse when it came to sacrifice. Lots of fat in our governments.

P.M. I've never seen a 'government' shut down for more than 4 weeks in my old life. The public really doesn't feel the loss until that 4th week.. One thing I noted after the shut down, many did lose jobs permanently because officials saw fat...two people doing work of one for example.. Shutdowns do effectively clean out department fat. Lots of lazy people in government. They get too comfortable.

P.M. the way it works is thus: you have hourly, then salaried. All have a thing called comp time. No cash is involved. You just get the time off with normal pay. You can accumulate as many comp time hrs as you work over the 8th hr. The government never pays cash out for the time. You just take the hrs off. The salary people are the furloughed in times of strike or shut down. They work because of the rule of 80. You get big pension when you hit that. If you quit before, you lose it.

P.M. people who work for government should realize unlike a private company that they adhere and work for the public. When the whole of public is in trouble which it has given the data from Homeland security, atf, ice, etc tell all we are in a human trafficking, drug, criminal and terrorists mode because the southern border is weak, we need to shut down. In past administration has just continued the band aid. We need to pull the band aids off and really tend to the problems.

The World's Leading Mad Scientist actually, this week is the first for government employee to feel pinch. They were all paid over holidays. This week starts a new period.

@AIRburst95 last year I got laid off at 58 years old. I wrote to Trump about the health care stuff. Too young for Medicare, too old to start all over again. They send me an insurance packet. I use Genscripts for pharmacy today. Not bad price.
