  1. the problem I saw when I was working...was that some jobs were way over paid. it was NUTS...a filing clerk made over 50k! Some companies compete via salaries...the higher the pay, the more folks wanted to work with them. The quality of work didn't matter. it was all political! Plus, manager would prop themselves up with all people who had Harvard, Yale, Etc...even if these people were worthless on job! when lay off time came about they'd get rid of the lowest paid and then the highest...then they look at schools...then degrees...last seniority!

  2. Betty H Chesapeake was one such company... everyone wanted to work there...the lowest wage job was at 39,500! Many made six figures...with only 2 years experience just out of college! They had terrific benefit and work environment. It was all too good to be true! We all saw the fall out.. I think monopoly like Google or Facebook are manipulating consumers as the old cigarettes companies did long ago. It's all about getting people hooked on habits. automation isn't the culprit to losing jobs, it's monopoly.
