  1. In the US, this is what happens, they 'donate' food to charities such as Food Bank. The bank even picks up the food.. then it takes it to facility where volunteers separate it for good use or garbage... most of it is trashed. Stores win and Food Bank wins... both write it off on taxes. Best to go to churches who distribute food. You need to check the amt they use to ded for tax purposes..
