  1. Actually gulags were no so bad in comparison to German concentration camps. I know that only 51% of people from my country Slovenia returned from German concentration camps after WW2 despite Germany had much better climate than Siberia and they were there just up to 5 years. If 1.6 million died from 18 million that were imprisoned in gulags (from wikipedia) then the survival rate was 91% and they spent much more time there than the prisoners of German concentration camps.
