Comments by "Ton Bong" (@tongobong1) on "What was the Role of Austria as part of Germany in WW2?" video.
@wisecoonie I lived in Vienna for some time so I know how Austrians saw the nazi occupation. Many Austrians were happy to became part of nazi Germany but also many were sad and even angry at nazists especially when they saw how nazists treated religious people - Christians and Jews. Austrians opposing nazism even helped the Red Army liberating Vienna.

Only 4 out of 100 top Nazis were Austrians. One of those 4 was Hitler and one was actually Slovenian Odilo Globocnik. Austrians were underrepresented among the top Nazis.

@lxi9648 Austrian identity is 1000 years old. It was very weak during the WW2 and it was reestablished after the WW2. Austrians were never Germans. They just speak German language. Genetically Austrians are Celts and Slavs and have very few Germanic genes.
5
Austrians used to think that they are Germans. Then they found that they are actually different than Germans. DNA showed that Austrians are more Celts and Slavs than Germanic.

@tekus89 Yes you can find maps that show the distribution of genes. R1b haplogroup is italo-celtic and germanic group. You should look at subgroups and you will see that Austrians are 2/3 italo-celts and around 1/3 germanic. Beware that many maps show western an even northern Austrians as dominant Germanic people and these maps are false - probably fabricated by german nationalists. It is interesting that even german nationalists recognised south Austrians as slavs - Slovenians. The fact is that Austrian lands were part of Bavaria in the middle ages and they were multilingual. Main languages were latin, medieval Czech, Slovak and Slovenian. Old Austrians started using German so they could communicate in neutral language. I used to think that Austrians are Germans until I spent a year in Vienna where I found that Austrians are anything but Germans.

@JG-my9mj Genetically Austrians are NOT Germans. They have only about 10% of Germanic genes in comparison to 20+% Celtic and 19% of Slavic genes. We could say that Austrians are half Celts and half Slavs and a bit of Germanic.
3
You should know that DNA analysis showed that Austrians are Celts and Slavs and have very few Germanic genes. Austrians used to speak Latin - western Celtic parts and Slavic languages - eastern Slavic parts and they were slowly Germanised. Situation is similar to Scotland and Ireland where people speak English but they are actually Celts and so they are very different from Germanic Anglo Saxons that live in England.
3
@DK-tv6rk I agree that Austrian culture is similar to Bavarian but you would be surprised to find out how much was Austrian and Bavarian influenced by Slovenian - from food to music. Nations that were living in the same countries for many centuries also shared a lot of culture among themselves.
3
Few people know the fact that Austrians are genetically half Slavs (Eastern Austrians including Vienna) and half Celts (Western Austrians)
2
@phonix6352 DNA analysis also showed that Austrians are not Germanic people like most of Germans. Austrians are mixed people with dominant Celtic genes 20+% and then Slavic 19% and only about 10% of Germanic. Germanic genes are dominant in Germany including Bavaria. So Austrians are really different from Germans.

@Holozon OMG you are totally wrong about Slovenians. Slovenian language is very different from Serbo-Croat language. Slovenians live in this part of Europe for more than 1000 years. The word Slovenian was already used at around 1550 by Slovenian writer Primoz Trubar. About 25% of family names on the cementaries are German mostly because of Germanisation. Slovenians have only about 5% of Germanic genes.Austrians have about 10% of Germanic genes and the rest of Austrians are Germanised Celts and Slavs. Yes there are German names of cities but Germans were never a majority of people living in Slovenian cities. The only place where Germans used to have majority was probably in Kočevje - german Goeche. Slovenians are genetically very different from Croats (Croats are not Slavs) and very close to south Austrians. Just look at the DNA analysis. Claiming that Austrians are Germans is like claiming that earth is flat now that we can all see the truth about earth and genes. It is the truth that some Germans came to Austria and Slovenia but they are minority. Slovenians have 38% of Slavic R1a, 20% Balkan I2a, 18% of Italo-Celtic&Germanic R1b (more Italo-Celtic than Germanic). South Austrians have similar distribution as Slovenians. Croats have 37% Balkan I2a, 24% Slavic R1a na only 8.5% R1b so they are genetically very different from Slovenians. I don't mind if Austrians were Germans or even if Slovenians were Germans but this is just totally false claim. All I care is the truth. You south Austrians are Germanised Slavs - Slovenians. Finally I like Germans because they are honest, hardworking and they are also great fighters - warriors but they are a bit simple people unlike Celts, Italians or Slavs that are much more complex. A strong leader can easily lead Germans and it is not so easy to lead Celts, Italians or Slavs because there is more individuality among those people in comparison to Germans. This is why Hitler was so successful with Germans. I even tried this when I was living in Vienna. When I gave a strong authoritative orders to Germans they obeyed me and when I gave a strong orders to local Austrians they looked at me WTF . Clearly Austrians are very different from Germans.

@aksel_5537 On your profile picture you look like an angry Slav from Russia.
2
Hawg Hathword I am a black African and I can say that the legendary Trump is far more popular among Africans than Obama and we all know Biden stole the elections by cheating. We couldn't believe that something like that can also happen in America and not just in poor African countries.
2
@lxi9648 I checked the DNA analysis results for Austrians and other nations surrounding them. You should check it too before you claim nonsense.
2
@Sturm und Drang You are wrong. R1b is italo-celtic and germanic. I1 is north pre Indo-European it is from Europeans that lived before Indo-Europeans came to Europe. Germanic, Slavic, Italic and Celtic people were all Indo-Europeans speaking Indo-European languages. Germanic people have different subgroup of R1b than Italo-Celtic. Austrians have more than 20% Italo-Celtic genes and only about 10% Germanic while Germans have much more Germanic than Italo-Celtic genes. Comparing the percentages of haplogroups is just not accurate enough since most of western Europe has mostly R1b. One sex is half of population and 12 markers usually represent more than 95%. Can you send me a link for pca clustering?
2
@Sturm und Drang OMG what is this crap "analysis" that looks more complex than rocket science and yet they used data from only 3112 individual for the whole European continent? Don't you know that you need far more people to get some decent results. 3000 would be ok sample size for the country of the size of Austria but for the whole Europe they should analyse at least 60 thousand people. Italo-Celts are subgroup of R1b. Look at time 13:35 on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iESweHJMIoo
2
@Sturm und Drang genetics is not simple but it is also not as complex as rocket science. Whenever you see some documents that look like a rocket science then there is something fishy. Most likely some "scientists" were earning good salary or "prestige" by producing crap of a document that is hard to understand. Honest scientists explain things so that any average person can understand them.
2
@Sturm und Drang You never worked in a large lab for a highly paying customer to produce some document that looks like a rocket science... I know that haplogroups evolved over time.
2
@Cemike maybe you are German living in Austria but you don't represent all Austrians that have only about 10% of Germanic genes.
2
@luca_history Because Austrians have only about 10% of Germanic genes while Germans have almost 50%. Austrians are 20%+ Celts and 19 Slavs...
2
@carolin-sophieb Austrians are also genetically more Celts 20%+ and Slavs 19% than Germanic only around 10%. Czech people have more Germanic genes than Austrians.
2
@christiansteiner8765 Germans are mostly Germanic people with exception of people living in south eastern Germany because they are genetically Slavs and some border areas in the south and west have more Celtic genes than Germanic. Austrians are not Germanic at all. They just have about 10% of Germanic genes so they are far from dominant.
1
@Holozon Graz is from Slovenian word Gradec and it means small castle and it is unlike word Grad in other Slavic languages where Grad means city. Dominant genes among south Austrians are Slavs so you are still Slovenians or Carantanians (old name for Slovenians) Croats are genetically quite different from Slovenians because Croats are actually not Slavs first. Croats, Bosnians and Serbs have Balkan genes despite they speak Slavic language. There are very few Germanic genes in Styria. You have more Slavic and Celtic genes and even more Balkan genes than Germanic and this is why people of Styria don't look like Germans at all. You look like Slovenians.
1
@aksel_5537 If your ancestors are from eastern part of Austria then you are probably more Slav than anything else. If your ancestors are from western part of Austria then you are probably more Celt than anything else. By your look I would say you are more Slav than Celt so you probably live somewhere in eastern part of Austria.
1
@aksel_5537 Hitler was actualy a Czech Slav and not a German like many people believe. Just look at his face. He has a face of a Slav and not of a German right?
1
@aksel_5537 we are all very mixed. I have some German ancestors from long time ago. The question is from where majority of your genes came. All Austrians have some Germanic genese but they are in minority - around 10% on average in Austrians. Austrians have 19% Slavic and around 22% Celtic genes and also depends on the part of Austria they live - their ancestors lived. Eastern Austrians have more than 30% of Slavic genes while Western have more than 30% Celtic genes and far less Slavic.
1
And now we know that Hitler was genetically more Celt and Slav than German. LOL!
1
@lxi9648 many thousand Austrians were analysed so results are very accurate. I am African and I spent a year living in Vienna so I could see that majority of Austrians there resemble slavs and are quite different from Germans. Do you really think speaking language is more important than genes? I am not Englishman just because I can speak English. Stop with this political BS. Austrians are NOT Germans and they never were Germans. They just speak German language so that Celts and Slavs can communicate.
1
@Sturm und Drang I am actually smart enough to differentiate the real knowledge from fake knowledge that exists only to impress those that have no clue about the subject. I am 100% sure this document is a BS and I saw many such documents in my profession. I even created some for a good salary. LOL!
1
@antonjensen1088 nobody forced Slavic people to leave Austria. Just look at the DNA of eastern Austrians. Majority of them have Slavic R1a. They were just Germanized by some Germanic people that came later and some of those Germanic people were my ancestors. I am not a Slavic patriot. I am just interested in the truth that is leaking behind the huge pro German propaganda.
1
@DK-tv6rk Yes Germans and Slavs were natural allies throughout history because Germans are warriors and Slavs are workers. Slavs spread by supporting warrior nations. When warriors went pillaging rich nations they brought loot and trade it with Slavs for food, clothes and services. If warriors didn't return then Slavs took their wives and made them Slavs. This is how east Germanic people became extinct and are now Slavs. Unfortunately christianity made Germans more peaceful so they didn't become Slavs. They even Germanised some Slavs...
1
@Cemike Most people living in Carinthia are Germanised Slovenians. By blood and genes they are no different from Slovenian minority living there. The proof is in the DNA analysis. Germans throughout history brainwashed their ancestors into believing that Germans are above Slavs and Italians and other nations so to Germanise them. Germans wanted the passage to Mediterranean sea and this is why they Germanised Austrian Celts and Slavs.
1
@gamerdrache6076 yes those Austrian Celts and Slavs are so silly thinking that they are Germans just because they speak German. LOL!
1
@gamerdrache6076 there is a huge propaganda that brainwashed most people. Scientific evidence showed us the real truth that Austrians are Celts and Slavs and have only minority of Germanic genes. It is time to face this fact like our ancestors have to face the fact that earth is rounded.
1
And their Celtic and Slavic genes have a lot to do with it. Austrians have very few Germanic genes unlike Germans.
1
You mean this half Slav - half Celt with the German name?
1
@Leo-uu8du Genetically Hitler was like other Austrians more Slav and Celt than German.
