@tochiRTA History as you know we Jews have historically fought alongside many minorities in the fight against discrimination. I actually come from a long line of extremely left-wing people in my family, who would be ashamed if I DIDN’T have a wide variety of black and gay and Muslim friends.
Even though I have felt the rise in antisemitism on the left for years so maybe it shouldn't, but it really feels like a personal betrayal of Jews in general, but of me specifically. I could feel antisemitism growing for the past 10-15 years, this was an absolute tsunami, that shook me to my core, and Especially hurtful coming from people I know personally, and liked. Therefore I just feel extremely hurt and abandoned, Ironically the people on the right (who I despise) have been my only comfort.
I understand not everyone thinks the same way, and maybe I wasn’t fair because maybe many good voices have been drowned out by the insane voices calling for genocide or Jihad. But I have yet to find people on the left with views like mine, who just want to live in peace with everyone, who don’t want war, but who also realize that we didn’t start this fight and that some things we don’t like (like war) as necessary for our survival.
And you are correct, because I know minorities are not a monolith I wasn’t suggesting they were and yet, I also think why should we help people who don’t think we have the right to have our ancestral homeland? Ironically through a rise in antisemitism, only proving our point that we do infact have a need for our homeland. Why would I help people when I'm clearly not wanted? Although i think gays for Gaza is kind of moronic. That being said, i will always cheer for the right side of history to win as I have no plans to abandon my ideals just my physical support, because I will never stand along the right wing.
Ironically I know it may seem weird but I’m actually not mad a Palestinians at all, not the innocent civilians in Gaza who i feel extreme sympathy for, nor the Palestinians the in the West calling for jihad, because i always knew where i stood with people who have those types of views.
I would like to apologize as I can see how my words would be hurtful to you, and I say this not as an excuse but as an explanation I'm extremely hurt yes but also terrified and scared and i truly feel abandoned by everyone including people i know.
But I do Thank you for your (personal) support, for Israel I do appreciate thank and sorry for the ted talk. YouTube comment section, is not exactly the place to be having this type of discussion, which should be far more nuanced.
