  1. I wish the Australian Police Forces would use Volvos - XC-60 - as they were trialing them in Dubbo, and Dubbo kept them. I wish they were still going to make the SR-T 300 and in RHD from the factory. Possibly the big Opel - Commodore, if it still exists now that it has been taken over by PSA. ? Germans too dominant, expensive and already proving problematic.

  2. The Falcon alloys, were known as snowflake design. I think used firstly in gold on the XE ESP pack ( European Sports Pack ), from about 1982. The red/orange version with the Scheel seats and 5.8 litre V8 and manual, I still think is one of Australia's best ever cars. This was when Ford Australia stopped V8 production until reintroducing them again for the all new EA. The last batch were sold to the Italian sports car company: De Tomaso

  3. The Mitsubishi is basically a Galant, and is what Mitsubishi Australia based it's new car on, after retiring the Sigma, which really is a Galant as well. We called ours, the Magna. Only with the 2.6 4 cyl astron engine. We actually made the car wider and did our own wagon.

  4. So the second Mitsubishi is known in the UK as still a Sigma Mitsubishi's luxury arm, called Diamante had hardtop versions and more better styling. This car in Australia was the second generation Magna, based off the Diamante not the Galant. Still had 2.6 astron four but also now a 3.0 litre V6, which became I think more popular. We also did a wagon.

  6. That's a Colorado - if body on frame, classed here in Australia as a "commercial" vehicle, I think.

  7. Yes, front wheel drive. Sigma was rear drive. The six, was 3 litre and a V6. Theirs could have been AWD , from the Galant VR4 rally car.

  8.  @Alberthoward3right9up  our first Magna here in Australia had no V6. But the model afterwards, code named TR, did - 3.0 litre. Next series, dumped the Astron and replaced it with a 2.4 new, more efficient 4 cyl. The 3.0 litre six became so popular, that they then cancelled the four as well. The luxury version, we called a Verada, got a 3.5 V6. Later on this was also offered on the base models. Such a good engine and much more fuel efficient than the commodores and falcons of the time, along with the 5 speed auto. It too was so popular that they got rid of the 3.0 litre and just had the 3.5. This remained until, the Magna finished and they did the 380 as a swan song, modified from the US. 3.8 litre V6 with either 5 speed auto or manual. Very nice, but lost it's fuel advantage. Bigger than commodores 3.6 V6. They also last long. Still many on Australian roads - set a benchmark in Australia for refinement and crash safety and efficiency.

  9. That Ford Laser is a twin to the Mazda 323. Ford's connection to Mazda in the Pacific, meant that when the rear drive escort finished, we didn't go with the new FWD escort, rather developed together with Mazda the new FWD Laser. BUT the wagons were rear wheel drive and had stronger bodies, I think. I their lifetime, there were also TX-3's, with AWD and turbos.

  10. The Mazda bounty was sold here as the BT50 ? and rebadged here as Ford's Courier Ute before it became known as the Ranger. Then later on the Ranger was an Australian thing and Mazda got pissed off and hopped into bed with Isuzu - lol - after Holden left who was also in bed with Isuzu with the Colorado 😂

  13.  @joshklaver47  true - I agree again - haven't been in the back of one - but like the back of a bus or most twin cab Utes, I think there the same - comparisons in car mags, actually show the back seats are very upright. I have some scoliosis and ciatica, managed, but it would all be bad, if I used seats like that all the time. Must be because of the tray behind and keeping the leg space ? A compromise. Yet they are the best selling first three in the country. Tax advantages. The big yank pick ups, are probably better, but at the cost of big size. They do look good though. The chev and RAM TR-X in particular. So many on the roads.

  16. So the last Falcon Utes, weren't body on frame, monocoque - but their tubs were separate from the cab and had leaf springs still - even XR 8 fg x Sprints. More of a workhorse than commodore. Please correct me if anything is wrong.

  19. Sorry, did any come with AWD ? We were in NZ in 1988 Absolutely adore NZ and kiwis. I car for the North Island was a Galant - base model - but really good. Much better than the Nissan bluebird ? and the front wheel drive Corona

  22. Holden Captiva ( pronounced here as Cap - teeva ), small and large version - actually Daewoo's with perhaps some input from GM I think they were rubbish Equinox and arcadia far better

  23. Vectra is European - Opel/Vauxhall Their medium size car. Were made here at one point. Our Holden camira was like a cousin to it and was replaced by badge engineering from about 1988 - 1996, with Camry clones. Then back to GM from Europe. The first camira was a GM global car, known as the "J" car. Australia made the Family II engines - and at one point was the biggest export product of Australia. The US had versions from Chevrolet right UpTo Cadillac - may have been the first small/compact ? Cadillac ?

  24. Because of the oil crisis and other factors, Holden did the commodore via an Opel/Vauxhall model. It was smaller than the traditional Kingswood prior. It was a gamble Ford, instead, stuck to a large car, they did themselves, even though underneath may have been prior. Holden didn't go big again, until the VN. ( But was dangerous, due to VL underpinnings, like why the front wheels look so inset - all to do with money, auto's launch was too severe and was dialled back later on Tyres too skinny. Didn't get completely fixed for entire range until the VR.) I THINK FORD was much more progressive and hit the right spot from 1988 - 1998. Bedford is like the Commercial arm of Vauxhall ?

  26. Transits here as well The new ones look really good with stripes Checkout the UK Top Gear episode where they drive them around a race track, because they were the best handling vans - I think a female German racing driver !? They were the staple of Australia Post.

  27. Yep - car companies are great at stuffing things up. The Pontiac GTO coupe should have simply been a Chevrolet or Pontiac Monaro - I believe the Americans would have taken to the name better, and wondered what it was - they could also see the history of Monaro and then like it even more. Many Americans were offended by the use of GTO and started a website against the using of the name, as it was "holy" and were usually much bigger cars and US made
