  1. We too, have: " turn left on red, after stopping " signs, but only where it is so designated. We also have a lot of intersections with sensing rods in them, to allow changing of the timing of the lights, when there is little traffic, such as at night time.

  2. Australia's traffic lights, also sit next to you at the beginning of the intersection, so you know which one is for you - can easily see through windscreen. They don't hang out over the intersection.
