  1. Don't be embarrassed by the car, it certainly stacks up. The fact that it is in such good condition now, proves it's longevity and build quality. A cars quality, is only seen after it has done many kms and years. Many luxury Europeans don't pass the test and can be phenomenally expensive to maintain, particularly long term. Older Volvos are the exception and Peugeots. The cars seats, particularly the rear headrests - which are a very important safety feature, not common in small cars back then, even today!? - look awesome - almost like the French car seats - Particularly Renault.

Today, for profit turnover, cars seem to have inbuilt obsolescence - even if not intended to, with complexity and parts that require entire systems to be replaced. Thank goodness for longer warranties and longer lasting electric cars. Original Prius, doing 400,000 kms and still going on original battery pack - batteries becoming cheaper and longer lasting. Electronics are complex. Diagnostic machines often hopeless. Default to a mechanic, that will actually LOOK for the problem. Some insurance companies will offer a FACTORY warranty at cost after original runs out. Often far better than, the warranties offered by dealerships on used cars.

  4. ​ @adamdooch6250 That, would have been with the advent of VW takeover. There was a sedan, with side opening bonnet - rear engined? - in Albury, in mustard yellow in the 1970's and 1980's, perhaps still is .... ??

  6. It's our medium to large car, from the '70s, by Holden. Called Holden Torana. Available as a sedan or two door liftback. 2.8 and 3.3 inline 6. Or, 4.2 or 5.0 litre V8. Completely Australian, including engines - not American - only imported 5.7 Chevy, which was not available in this car, only it's bigger brother, the Kingswood. For a short time. Not until the VX Commodore, did the Aussie V8 pass away. Straight Sixes finished in 1986, with a Skyline 6 and turbo, then the US Buick 3.8 V6. Which I think was originally a V8 truck engine, turned into a V6 ??? The model in iWrocker's " man cave ", is the full on racing version for Australian Racing Calendar. Very successful. Road going versions that are original, go for huge money today. Showroom cars of the time, had a version called SS, with lairy pastel colour schemes, wheels and even a camping tent attachment that fitted to the open liftback. Just Google or YouTube it 😊 Very popular with modifiers and drag racing. Street Machine magazine has many pictures of this.

  8.  @CanalFrizeman  Yes, true - they do look very similar - front headlight treatment etc. The hatch, though is more vertical to the Lada's and the Lada has an extra side window. I tried to see if connected to Lada, because of the Soviet Union, but can't find. Look very similar, particularly front and back. Also produced at the same time with similar specifications.

  9. ​ @IWrocker Perhaps by talking to a local Volvo car club - you could get to drive the P1800 coupe sports Volvo. That would be cool. The one that the New York guy did over 3,000,000 miles in. That type.
