  2. Yep - each state has a combined insurance and road assistance organization. NSW and the ACT share the one - which is NRMA - originating as the first one. Then there is an overall governing body for all of them. RACV is the Victorian one - Royal Automobile Club of Victoria and then there is RACT and RACQ etc with some variation. If you are insured with them and have their roadside assistance - at different levels of care - it gives you coverage across the entire country. RACV has some very different policies you can take out - like when renting a car - you can DECLINE the renters insurance and pay a fee instead to RACV and be covered for the full cost of the car, your person and belongings as soon as you walk out your door and to the end of your rental, as a one off fee. Sometimes covering tyres and glass. So cheaper and more coverage than rental companies, that may charge you, per day, that you have the car. Catch - excess maybe $3000, but fully refundable by your insurance policy, usually within a fortnight.
