Honda and Isuzu and Subaru shared cars for awhile. Accord, Legacy etc.

The very first Holden Toranas were Vauxhall Vivas. Later on, when Holden wanted to put their own inline 6 in them, they had to lengthen the nose and got another look.

Yep - Holden Connections galore. At the end we're often Daewoos. Last Commodore was an imported Opel Insignia. Had a bit of Aussie development. Motoring journalists drove the German and last VF II Commodore back to back in Australia and reported that ours still beat the new one in many areas, despite being older design. VN looks similar to the late eighties Opels. No panels are the same. Just styling cues. VE was completely Aussie design and following were with US engines. ZF, Getrag and Tremec transmissions. Platform used for the Camaro. Aussies now head of design at GM and in Vauxhall/Opel I think. Or were. First Ford Focus was Aussie designer and second Ford GT twin turbo V6. You skipped 1981 World J.car GM platform. Opel Ascona in Germany and Vauxhall Cavalier in England. Isuzu in NZ and Japan. Camira in Australia. Chevy, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick and Cadillac in the US. I think the first small Cadillac. Cimmaron ?

The Chevy Volt was an Opel invention.

You would be surprised at how well an original Honda Accord hatch with a two speed semi-automatic goes. Very buzzy, but moves and cruises well and lasts. Even in Aussie heat. Twin fans 1977.

So the 2009 Opel Insignia was actually sold along side our Commodore in Holden Showrooms for awhile, with its Opel badges. Sedan and wagon and I think possibly full on twin turbo V6 all wheel drive. Not for long. Smaller than the Commodore. Still see some around. We always miss out on the good stuff, back then - so didn't get the GT convertible / Pontiac solstice. The Pontiac looks really good. Didn't get the retro Ford Ute nor the Thunderbird nor the Plymouth prowler. There is one purple prowler in Albury - Wodonga at the local Audi/Mazda/ Jeep dealer - the owner sometimes displays it in the showroom.

VT is NOT an Omega - consult a Holden Engineer. Nothing is interchangeable. Just design cues.

You would have seen heaps of the Mantas in your rally videos.

The Opel Rekord is our Holden Commodore. All began in 1978. Holden, because of the global fuel crisis, took a gamble to downsize it's big car from the HZ Kingswood. So turned to it's brother Opel in Germany. Kept our engines. Different nose to accommodate our engines. Ford Australia did it's own thing with Project Blackwood ? - and created our own XD Falcon a year later with long wheelbase wagon, Ute, panel van and luxury long wheel base Fairlane and LTD. Both Holden and Ford didn't do coupes. Despite the Monza in Germany. Peter Brock did bring one to Australia and put the Holden V8 5.0 litre in it. Holden had to extend and makeover it's old Ute, panel van and long wheel base Statesman DeVille and Statesman Caprice. None of these were renewed until the entire next generation of the VN. But no panel van. Both cars received the Wheels Car of the Year award when released. Internationally renowned award, that sometimes is not given out, if no car that year is up to scratch.

PSA is Peugeot and Citroen. Peugeot acquired Citroen a long time ago. Like Ford, GM got into yet another financial crisis and sold off its different brands. Opel was sold to PSA. PSA has now joined with others under the Stellantis Group.

HSV did versions of the Astra.

The 2 door late seventies coupe Kadett in yellow and black, was sold in the US as a Chevy? On YouTube / Wikipedia.

The first picture of the Opel Kadett ( later ones were our Holden Gemini with Isuzu engine ) - was the one used in Top Gear when they did their African Challenge with the Lancia Beta and W123 M-Benz. Richard Hammond called it Oliver. He went and found it afterwards and bought it and restored it. Has displayed it at English car meets.

The van is actually a Renault Traffic. Also badged as a Bedford. Vauxhall name and also name used in Australia for vans and trucks.

Fiat, Opel and Peugeot began, by making bicycles.

Chevy Aveo is a Daewoo. Original Barina was rebadged Suzuki Swift in Australia.
