I applaud his awakening, but this isn't just a Trump thing happening within the Republican/Conservative Party. This high level of insanity doesn't happen overnight, the Republican Party has been fomenting this for decades, if not generations. We have been in a cold Civil War since the end of the first Civil War and the Confederate sympathizers ... as well as the Nazi sympathizers ... as well as the Nationalist sympathizers in this country all found a home in the Republican Party the moment the Democratic Party changed tactics and became more inclusive. Republicans of the past could hide these connections they have with racism, sexism, bigotry and prejudice through their use of Christian faith/religiosity and patriotism as both a shield and a cudgel. Trump is not the cancer of the Republican Party (or even American politics), he is just a symptom of that cancer. Beating Trump is just the start of a looooong battle that sadly I don't think enough people see, or even want to fight.
