  1. It is good practice to turn going forward and reverse straight if possible. In a car park you can often turn into a space then reverse into the space behind.

Having owned cars from 1952 Morris Minor MM, synchromesh ok, a bit weak on second and no synchromesh on first, I got use to double de clutching and then clutches gear changes, handy for fast driving left foot braking, I know fast driving in a side valve Morris Minor but I did manage a win and a second place in that car before going to a 1953 MG TD MK II, I could change gear fast and smooth with or without the clutch. This can be handy if the clutch linkage breaks or a clutch cylinder fails. My wife likes automatic and I always left foot brake in an automatic, probably not something to teach a learner driver.
