This won't really be a thing before next century I think. A permanent moon base maybe this century. As for colonizing Mars, maybe do Titan instead (although further away, it has a lot better environment for humans than Mars). Anyways I'm all for getting the price of space travel down, and opening up space access. For something to happen, it must be economically viable, or have some sort of military or scientific value. As of know, asteroid mining is the only thing I can potentially see having some economic value. Moving industry up there, taking advantage of the low or micro-gravity, might be economically viable at some point in time.
