When the funding body is politically motivated, then you can be pretty sure that you will get the results the politicians are looking for. Or the next time around, you will not get any new projects.

The key is: You need a new dataset before publishing if going down that route. If not, you are doing very bad science.

@jmitteld - so you want to publish your hypothesis without having any proof of them? Not sure what value that has.

@XEinstein - you are mixing science with politics here. Correctly conducted science should stand on its own feet, regardless of political views. "Energy is scarse and so it makes sense to treat it as such and not over consume on energy" - this is a political statement, and may or may not have any scientific support behind it.

Well, I guess if you want to explore other interesting correlations in your data, then by all means. But to prove that you are really on to something, you will need a new dataset and redo the research from scratch.
