  4. Well, if you are guarantied to have a benign dictator running a country with a badly educated and poor population - it is the best short to medium term solution. However, power corrupts, and the democratic institutions must be there to allow peaceful transition of power when his time comes to and end. There is nothing preventing democracies from not having fixed term lengths, a lot of the worlds strongest democracies doesn't have a term limit. As long as only criminals are rounded up, but other politicians are not, its all good. As long as he is popular with the people, he has nothing to fear from democracy. The problem comes if he uses his now strong power base to make sure he stays in power.

  5. Power corrupts... So the question is how long he can keep going without himself being corrupted by power. That will be the real test of this person and the country.

  6. Yes, one man can change everything. As long as the democratic fundamentals themselves are not dismantled, it is all good. There has been many Autocrats starting out pretty good, but then they have turned bad. I think Singapore is one of the few exceptions to this. The problem is that you need to be lucky. And having a government based on being lucky isn't really a good long term strategy.
