As a Norwegian, I'm super happy to have Finland on the team. And you are right, its not all about the money, its how you spend it as well. There will be a lot of new stuff bought in the 2020s for a lot of militaries. I know Norway is sending their old Leopard 2A4 to Ukraine, while procuring new Leopard 2A7s from Germany. So the contradiction with military spending, is that if you spend it too early, it will be outdated when you might need it in the far future. If you wait with spending until you need it, you might get new stuff, but not quick enough to prevent a war.

Well, one thing is spending, another thing is getting something for the money. Also, what is things being spent on? Is it pensions for old officers or is it new weapons? There are more to it than just the overall spending budget.

@soerlie - with Sweden and Finland now in NATO, I think one should have a more holistic approach to defense in the North.

Haha, and yes. Because now you're not too eager to do it.

I mean, Germany screwing things up in Europe isn't really a new concept.

@motionpictures6629 - yeah, but taking control over Europe is a slow an painful process. Norway also has very good relationship with UK and USA, so not going to stand alone in this very strange scenario.

@maxwellquebec8675 - from a resource perspective, Russia already have all the oil and gas it needs. So any invasion of Norway would just be part of a larger push somewhere else.

@maxwellquebec8675 - world has moved on since the 1930s.

@emilw9690 - well investing in electric tanks and artillery development.

Leonard / Leopard is apparently the same thing in english. Funny how this error got through, as it is pretty glaring.

Hot real estate there.

I'm sure there are support roles that Belgia could fill. Like buy in and operate some transport planes or something.

We in Norway for sure didn't have anything to do with it. Although we have very extensive sub-sea infrastructure experience, subs and everything. And we opened up a new pipeline to Poland the day after. Not to mention the untold billions we made from becoming Europes primary gas supplier after that pipe was shut down. So we know it was not Norway. It was a few amateur divers from Ukraine. Naah... Don't buy it. It must have been the Swedes, they are sneaky. Probably Greta in a small dingy wanting to stop CO2 emissions. Seriously though - I mean... The only country that is even remotely plausible to be behind this is USA. Biden warned about it being blown up even. No wonder the investigations go nowhere.

It should be said that the US military has a lot of stuff going on outside of NATO area.
