Labor is very expensive in Norway, which makes it very important for Norwegian companies to always innovate or adopt new innovations/tech as fast as possible. Although there is limited innovation being done in Norway itself (outside of sub-sea oil/gas stuff), Norway are very much early adapters of new things/tech.

A Germany destabilizing Europe (again) :) Well, how about turning on the wind-turbines and solar panels that they have spent so much money on? Or is the reality that "green energy" is bullshit, unless you have Nuclear or Hydro Power?
1
@freddy19985 - hehe, thankfully its growing in USD too.
1
Its not caused by EVs or private consumption. Its caused by electrifying oil fields to make Norway's CO2 emissions go down on paper. Typical "green" policies that hurts everyone.
1
Norway has balanced on a knifes edge, but thankfully by using a lot of oil-money on social problems, plus having Sweden work as the lightning rod, it has worked out ok. Also a lot of immigrants in Norway is from Sweden and Poland. Which is just a net positive.
1
@andoletube - yes, we do of course spend a ton of money of charity (aka development aid) more than pretty much any other country (relatively speaking). And we still feel a bit bad about it.
1
@estebanperalta8880 - that's the main issue in Norwegian economy. There is very little incentive in the huge public sector to make things better / more efficient.
1
He forgot to mention compound interest on the wealth fund, which will make it possible for Norway to be a tax haven in a few decades.... So Ireland better watch out...
1
Well, as a fellow Norwegian, I agree. The Norwegian government is stupid rich, not ordinary people.
1
As long as someone buys, someone will sell. When buying from Norway, the Norwegians feel bad about it at least.
1
@stickynorth - now I can add that too to my knowledge heap.
1
As a Norwegian, I thank Sweden for giving examples of how not to run things. Its been helpful when Norway has chosen its path.
1
No, the world would now have lived under the glorious Norwegian Social Democratic Viking empire. And everyone would have spoken Norwegian.
1
Poverty problem = bad government policies. Gap between rich and poor = not an issue if the poor gets richer. Mental health = yes, because people aren't satisfied with drink alcohol and walk it off anymore. Suicides = yes, but we don't talk about that. Acer Agreement = Government pockets the profit, fleecing people and companies. Basically extra bad tax. Worlds highest taxes = Not true. Pretty average taxes. Cost of living = Yes, pretty high. Bad government policies. Fuel prices = Yes. Bad government policies. Get an EV instead. All in all, minor issues that could easily be fixed. But people vote for parties that wants to spend hundreds of billions of USD on "green policies". Of course you'll get poorer then.
1
Well, Norwegians voted for parties that said they wanted a richer government and poorer people. And then they complain when they get it.
1
@Relikvien - well, "normal people" = "bureaucrats in Oslo".
1
Before TV, Radio and Internet - how boring must life have been here? I'd get drunk every day as well if I had to live in Norway in the 1800s.
1
Make sure to have that Irish passport, because Brexit now makes moving to Norway as an English person much more difficult.
1
New Zealand has better climate and even more spectacular nature. However, Norway has better looking cities. Norway is also much closer to other countries.
1
And Norwegians are not poor now either, but not rich either.
1
@bharath2508 - are you in a cabin far into the woods?
1
Norway and Russia has 1000 years of peace (if you don't count Sovjet liberating nazi occupied northern Norway). So it will even be a hard sell inside Russia.
1
And Norway had nothing to do with that Nordstream pipe blowing up at the same time we opened up that pipe to Poland. Total coincidence. wink wink
1
@marwood9421 - yes, that is true. Over time the Norwegian government will probably reduce taxes as the dividends from the oil-fund continuous to increase. At the moment people are used to them, and are fine with them. Being flashy wealthy is not a goal for a normal Norwegian.
1
Shhhhssss.... Nobody knows who did that.... wink wink
1
@TomgTomg1 - Also, the reason why the Dutch are so tall, is because back in the day, before people could swim, only the tall ones would survive the flooding from time to time.
1
@iZetto1 - tall people lifted up their (still small - but soon to be even taller) children over the flood-water. Not so with the small parents. Hard times.
1
But the trick is to be smart about the nationalization. It has to be done gradually and carefully.
1
Norwegian here - its a minor news item to us, and hasn't really had much interest from anyone here. Unless EU pushes real hard on it, nothing will be done with it as long as oil/gas is being exported.
1
It would have been the most prosperous African nation in a decade or two.
1
Very secure.
