Well trading Russian land for Ukrainian land is a much better deal than trading Ukrainian land for Ukrainian land.

@dpelpal - maybe its like China is a "near arctic" country? So "near Kharkiv" is includes everything west of the Urals?

If mental gymnastics where an Olympic sport, Russians would have easily gotten first place and second place. Maybe North Korea in a third somewhere.

With your theory, then I think Svalbard is actually even more likely area. Its already in a special relationship between Norway and Russia. It is remote, and it doesn't have so much value really.
16
Norwegian here - I'm willing to swap Svalbard for a suitable big US owned island in a warmer climate. Maybe the Greenlanders would go for a swap - as well. Move away from the frozen tundra of Greenland to some nice island somewhere else. Fun ideas :)

North West Korea.

In Russia Bakhmut is such a strategic important city, that I guess if they are right, the flood gates into the plains of Ukraine are now open, and the Russians will be rushing west at an alarming pace. For some reason, I don't think we will see this happening...

What makes you believe in the turn-out numbers?
5
Have you seen the Russian countryside? They are living in the 1920s, not 2020s.

Doubt it, as it isn't an invading army hell bent on extermination. And the damage these drones do are very minor. Its more like an inconvenience and reminder that the country is at war.
3
One rather prefers to surround and get the forces to surrender / retreat, rather than actually go house to house and fight.
3
@baronvonlimbourgh1716 - yes, you are right, that kind of urban fighting is something they are pretty good at.
2
I'm very curious to what sort of plan Trump comes up with.
2
I had the exact same prediction and reasoning behind it.
2
550 km without external fuel tanks. Should be plenty.
2
Are you sure you have the same facts?
2
@RudeCorona - well, if you are able to predict future events or at least that future events matches up with your idea of what's going on, then you are most likely right. If not, then you are wrong. And in that case it is important to understand how that came to be.
2
Is China really against the current world order? They have made a lot of money and prosperity on the back of it.
2
I guess the problem with the theory, is that if it is an isolated, fairly small and far away thing, then the commitment from NATO countries doesn't need to be more than to handle the issue at hand. So it would be just about sending some fighter jets or support personell, or maybe a brigade or two from each country.
2
@harmless6813 - he had a 3 day opportunity and gambled hard. He failed.
2
Danish does not conjugate verbs based on the persons or singular/plural. So this complexity is English grammar sometimes might slip.
2
Two years in, and yes - you were right. Big war.
2
Absolutely. Putin has single-handedly saved NATO.
2
Hysj, det er Norge som står bak... Ikke si det høyt.
2
True, that China could push the war in favor of Russia. But to great expense to themselves. And since this war is of no interest to China, I don't imagine they are willing to sacrifice a lot of wealth and goodwill for it.

Was that why Russia annexed 4 Ukrainian oblasts before having military control over them?
1
Is there some statistics on the pre-war vs. current anchor incidents?
1
Interesting take on it. I guess its about getting to a position of power before any peace talks can be had, and Russia getting Ukrainian concessions.
1
@harmless6813 - that's why they want some wins, and Ukrainian suffering so the can get those.
1
Well, they are just conducting a "special" military operation...
1
What about the lost income for Ukraine, that cannot be that good?
1
Well, I guess if Trump's plan is to get Europe to take more responsiblity for its own defence, his plan is probably succeeding.
